Parkside Counselling & Mediation Centre  Principal Counsellor Paul Senior is a Medicare Registered Allied Health Provider of Psychological Focused Strategies through the Australian Association of Social Workers.

When should I refer to an Allied Health Provider of Psychological Focused Strategies?

Patients often approach their GP with concerns about negative life circumstances, these can be thoughts of suicide, relationship breakdowns, acute stress, post-traumatic stress, life crisis or social isolation. These often point to, or are accompanied by, significant and persistent mental health problems.

As an experienced and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Paul understands mental disorders and has particular training, skills and expertise to assess and offer treatment.

Paul is also experienced in working collaboratively with other health professionals to provide wrap around support to ‘at risk’ individuals.

How do you refer?

Under government mental health care programs, the first step is for you, as the treating GP, to formulate a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan for your patient. You are eligible for a rebate fee from Medicare to complete this Plan. Please check with Medicare for the billing item number to activate any referral.

A written referral letter is required for your patient, who can then contact our service to arrange an appointment.

What feedback will you receive?

It is a requirement of these programs that you will be provided with a written report with information on:

  •         Assessments carried out
  •         Treatment provided
  •         Recommendations for future management.

If you are looking for a skilled and experienced practitioner to provide a professional assessment, counselling, and a range of treatment and support options to your patients, you may wish to consider referral to Paul Senior;  B.A. (Hon), B. Soc. Admin., M.A (Psychoanalysis ), Grad Cert Leadership.
